Michaela's Story
Posted August 19, 2005
I am 26 and my husband is 27. We have
been married for three years. We began trying to concieve
on our first anniversary. At that time I was still in
college, so I wasn't really that worried about it. I
thought it was just stress and that it would happen.
I made an appointment with my OBGYN to get a regular
yearly after I graduated from college and finally got
insurance. He told me that we probably had nothing to
worry about since we were only 24 & 25. He confirmed
that I was ovulating the day of my PAP by testing me.
He said that we may need to check my husband's sperm
just as a precaution.
That night, we got the call back that it was not good
news. My husband had low sperm count, 50% motility and
poor morphology. We were both devastated. He really
took it hard. After talking with the doctor he said
that IUI was our next step and
that when we were ready to begin the process, then we
needed to set up a fertility consultation.
At that time, we began to get focused on our financials
and living situations. We figured we better get ourselves
in better shape before beginning fertility treatments.
In April, we had our fertility consultation and the
doc said he saw a problem with my cervix and uterus.
He said they were extremely inverted forward and that
I would probably have had problems concieving even with
a healthy sperm count. He still agreed that our best
option was IUI at this time.
In May we did the first IUI. Nothing. In June we did
our second IUI. This one was pretty painful because
of the severe angle my uterus takes. I almost told him
to stop the procedure and never do it again. I started
my period 2 weeks later. We had another IUI July 11.
I am already cramping.
Has anyone had any success stories with IUI no medication?
I am just feel myself giving up hope. I feel like I
am wasting my time & money. I don't know anyone
who had success with this procedure. We cannot afford
IVF so this is our only hope.
