Courtney's Story
posted April 13, 2007
After a year and a half of marriage and
a trip to Hawaii, my husband and I decided to TTC #1.
I started having some strange symptoms when I went off
of the Ortho Evra patch including side pain, tiredness
(especially after eating certain foods), having my period
every other week and moodiness. I called a friend of
mine (an OBGYN) in Atlanta and she asked me to go to
a lab immediately for blood tests.
Two weeks later I went to her office and
they did an ultrasound. I had high testosterone, messed
up hormone levels, an enlarged ovary and the PCOS
signature "string of pearls" of eggs in my
ovary. She diagnosed me with PCOS. It was a complete
shock to me and I got very depressed for a week or so.
I went back to the lab on day 14 of my next cycle to
see if I ovulated on my own. My level for progesterone
was 2...obviously anovulatory. She asked if I would
like to go onto clomid and after discussing it with
my husband, we said yes. I started a combination of
estradiol, 50 mg of clomid and prometrium. Two months
after starting the clomid and other drugs I was pregnant
with my little boy.
In December 2005, he was born at 7 lbs
9 oz. and 20 3/4 inches long. I tried to breastfeed.
My son and I got thrush almost every other week for
4 weeks. I did not have enough milk supply though I
did rent the pump from the hospital to try to increase
supply. I gave up after 6 weeks of trying.
Now I am TTC #2 with 1000 mg of metformin, 100 mg.
clomid, estradiol and prometrium. It has been 7 months
and no luck. I have ovulated on clomid though. Next
month we are trying IUI. Pray that we will conceive
our next baby in God's timing. He has been so good to
us! |
