Connie's Story
Posted September 14,

My husband and I had a very
rough time becoming parents, but it did happen for us.
I have always had irregular periods so I knew it would
it would be hard for me to get pregnant. I was diagnosed
with pcos when
I was 19 and blocked tubes. Fertility pills did not
work for me at all. I had my tubes unblocked and 5 years
later i was still not pregnant. I cried all the time
during this part of my life. I had another hsg and found
that one of my tubes was blocked again. I was very depressed.
Not only wasn't I getting pregnant but I gained a lot
of weight. So I went on a diet similar to south beach.
I lost 40lbs and my periods started to get regular.
I got a little excited. On Christmas 2002 I found out
that i was pregnant for my daughter Sierra Grace. She
was born 3 weeks early because of preeclampsia. It was
very mild, but they induced to prevent complications.
She weighed 7lbs 6oz 19 in long with a head full of
black curly hair and brown eyes. She was my miracle.
Three years later we decided
to try again. Well I gained the weight i had lost and
my periods were irregular again. For about 1 and half
yrs i exercised and did weight watchers. I was not getting
pregnant and I had lost 40 lbs. Untill someone told
me i was eating too many carbs and that is what causes
pcos. So I went on strict south beach. I lost 10 lbs
in one week and by the end of the month I was pregnant
again. I was so excited. I thought this would never
happen for me. When I was 29 wks i had the worst migraine
ever and i had started swelling some terrible. I started
losing my vision so my husband rushed me to the hospital
and i was admitted. I had preeclampsia again and this
time it was dangerous. My bp was 193/105 and I had +4
proteins in my urine. They gave me magnesium for my
bp and steroid shots to develop the babys lungs and
the very next day I had a c-section. My baby girl weighed
2lbs 14.7 oz and she was 15 inches long.
She stayed in the nicu for
5 wks. She never had any problems other than weight and learning to eat. Kaylie
Francis is now home and doing great. She is 5 months
old and weighs 12lbs She has red hair and blue eyes
like my great grandfather.
After the birth of Kaylie
I had a tubal ligation. I don't want to risk another
pregnancy. I am lucky to have my girls, and they mean
more to me than all the money in the world.
