Amanda's Story
Submitted Nov 6, 2006
My husband and I tried for 3-1/2 years
to concieve,. Consulting an ob he told us that sometimes
it takes time. I would bleed for months at a time and
the doctor never once thought that this was a problem.
Finally, I had had enough and went to
see another doctor who I had located through the Christian
Magazine at church and she started tests and clomid
we tried for another year with this method. Tubes were
screened, sperm was tested but everything looked fine.
Finally we went to see a fertility specialist
and he took one look at my history and at me and said
you have Polycystic
Ovaries. "OK, what does that mean?" Well,
I don't ovulate...
So after all the tests we went ahead with
IVF we had 18
eggs, out of which were 6 class A embryos. We transferred
2 and froze 4. The pregnancy test came back postive!
We had an ultrasound (which they did 2 days early as
they had the wrong dates) and we were told we were pregnant
with twins. We were shocked that it had worked as we
had set ourselves up for dissapointment.
Unfortunately when we went back 2 days
later they told us that only one had survived and the
other one would just disappear I was more devastated
about the one that didn't make it, when I should have
been thinking about the one that did. It took some time
to actually believe I was pregnant.
Our daughter was born 5lbs 13oz @ 37 weeks
and healthy. After this the Doctor put me on Glucophage
to ovulate. 5 months later we had a miracle - I was
pregnant. Our son was born weighing 6lbs 12oz and healthy.
This year we went back to use our frozen
embryos.
3 of the four embryos survived the thaw
and 2 survived the transfer, we are now expecting twins!
What a medical marvel IVF/FET is we are so greatful
that we finally found great doctors who cared about
our situation. Looking back upon the journey it was
hard, stressful, heartbreaking and there were times
that we felt like giving up, but with faith in God that
he would get us through, that's what helped us make
it. Now we are blessed with our beautiful smart children
and with 2 more on the way! Our lives are now complete.
Update from
December 14, 2007
Things are great! We are now the parents
of 4 kids - the twins were born May 11th, I had been
on bed rest for 3 months due to the pressure the pregnancy
was putting on my body and we sure didn’t want
the twins to come early.
They were born at 36wks, with a c-section
- it was an emergency delivery - my blood pressure was
becoming dangerous and Talia was delivered first weighing
in at 4lbs 8oz and Daniel was born 1 minute later weighing
in at 5lbs 12oz they spent a week in the NICU. Daniel
came home on oxygen for a month.
They are now getting big and curious and
the transition from 2 kids to 4 has been pretty smooth.,
My 3 and 4 year olds are thrilled to be big brothers
and sisters.
Thank-god for answering our prayers and
blessing us with these beautiful children.
Faith prevails!
